We are excited to begin a brand-new event series called, Wider Circles: A Faith Matters Interfaith Gathering. Each month, come hear a different faith leader share a meaningful practice, reading, or idea from their tradition, learn about opportunities to partner together in service, and have the opportunity to ask them anything—no bad questions. We also break bread together and invite you to bring a favorite loaf, dip or spread to share.
This month, we are honored to welcome Rev. Jamie White, who became the 18th Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in the summer of 2022, marking the historic 150th Anniversary of the church as our first female senior minister. Originally from California, Jamie received her undergraduate degree in Pastoral Leadership and Biblical studies from Vanguard University of Southern California. She later received her Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary where she was a distinguished Apollos Scholar and received a number of awards for ministry excellence.
Please join us for a continuation of The Big Questions, a new Faith Matters series of conversations that seek to expand and deepen our understanding of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. This month, Terryl Givens will be joined by Maxwell Institute scholar, Rosalynde Welch, to explore the origins of the Book of Mormon with questions such as:
What is the relevance of gold plates today?
Does their materiality matter?
Did Joseph use them to translate?
Why did they disappear from the story?
Is history as theology perilous?
We invite you to participate, either in person or virtually, as we discuss some of the most fascinating theological and historical questions that will come up during this year’s study of the Doctrine and Covenants. We hope you find these conversations enriching and supportive as you walk the journey of faith.
